Happy Sunday.
I hope your weekend has been lovely. Here are 4 tiny Sunday ideas+rituals I am leaning into this week—simple things that make Monday feel a bit more intentional.
But before I do that, I wanted to let you know that this Thursday, 11AM EST I’ll be hosting my bi-monthly Spice Spoon Cook-Along on ZOOM, which is exclusively for my paid Substack subscribers 💌 I’ll be making these Chilli Cheese Toasts and a quick+easy dessert, which is going to be a surprise.
I will send the Zoom link out on Tuesday.
My 4 Tiny Sunday Ideas+Rituals
1) Boil a Batch of Baby Potatoes for Easy Weeknight Meals 🥔
Here are 3 versatile ways to turn them into side dishes:
i) Zeera Aloo – After boiling, halve potatoes and toss in a large sauté pan with vegetable oil, whole cumin seeds, red chili flakes, and sea salt. A very typical Pakistani way of making potatoes.
ii) Creamy Potato Salad (Minus the Crispy Part) – Use your prepped boiled potatoes to make a creamy, tangy potato salad. Skip the crispy part for a quicker version. This is a viral recipe from social media, and you can see my take on it and the full recipe here.
iii) Frittata with Your Prepped Potatoes – Turn your boiled potatoes into a frittata! Halve your prepped potatoes and toss them into a hot pan with some olive oil and garlic. I like to add lots of parmesan to my frittatas. Finish under the broiler for a few minutes to get that gorgeous golden top. A fab meal to make use of your Sunday-prepped potatoes!
2) A Sunday Cake Tradition (Because It Just Works) 🍰
As you know, I love a tiny Sunday baking ritual that makes Monday feel gentler. There is one cake which is evergreen, and that is Yassi’s Date Cake. Yassi is my husband’s mum, who is a phenomenal cook, hostess, baker, and all-round perfect, loving, and elegant woman 🧿. This cake tastes like a sticky toffee pudding, but without all the fuss. It is gorgeous with my morning coffee. Try it, and let me know.
3) Frozen Berries for a Winter Pick-Me-Up 🍓
I tend to stick to seasonal produce, so by the time winter rolls around, I’m really missing fresh berries. To solve that, I always keep frozen berries on hand. They’re perfect for topping yogurt parfaits, making crumbles, or enjoying as a snack throughout the week. Instant happiness during these colder months.
4) Sukoon Morning Music: Embrace the Beginning of the Week with Intention 🎶
I’ve created a playlist just for you to capture the essence of sukoon, the Urdu word for peace and tranquility—a state of being that is difficult to translate into English. I don’t subscribe to the idea of tackling the hardest tasks first thing in your day. Instead, I reserve my mornings for calm, structured planning that sets the tone for the week ahead. Sukoon can be as simple as a hot cup of tea or a slow Monday morning that evokes the same peaceful feeling. So while I am reviewing my editorial calendar, and going through a grocery list for client recipes, this will be on in the background. Click here to play it tomorrow morning for exactly 60-minutes, to bring you peace as you flow into your day. Enjoy 🤍
May my ideas+ritual tips be useful, and bring a little ease to your week. If you give any of them a try, I’d love to hear from you—please share your thoughts in the comments (and if you hit the ❤️ button for a ‘like’, it helps my post reach more readers, so I’d be immeasurably grateful for that). Wishing you a calm and intentional start to the week ahead.
All love, Shayma x
